It's All About The Equipment: 4 Toothbrush Tips You Need To Follow
Posted on: 8 April 2018
You want your teeth to last forever. Because of that desire, you probably go to the dentist twice a year for those much-needed checkups and professional cleanings. You also probably brush and floss your teeth at least twice a day. However, you might not be paying as much attention to your toothbrush as you should.
In fact, you might not be paying any attention to it, which can be terrible for your teeth. To help you give your toothbrush the attention it needs, and to help keep your teeth and gums healthy, here are four toothbrush tips you should follow.
1. Try Out a Few Different Toothbrushes
If you usually just grab the first toothbrush you find when it's time to buy a new one, you should change that practice. Your teeth depend on the toothbrush you choose. You need to make sure it's the right one for you. To make sure you're getting your teeth and gums as clean as they should be, try out a few different toothbrushes. Find the one that leaves your teeth and gums feeling their cleanest. If you're not sure which one to choose, talk to your dentist during your next appointment.
2. Don't Store Toothbrushes on the Counter
It might be more convenient to leave your toothbrush out on the bathroom counter, but it isn't the most hygienic place to store it. You might not realize this, but each time you flush your toilet, fecal matter and urine mist can spray throughout the bathroom. If your toothbrush is on the counter, it could get a large dose of the mist. To avoid coming in oral contact with fecal matter and urine mist, don't store your toothbrush on the counter.
3. Give Toothbrushes a Good Cleaning Once a Week
You might think that brushing your teeth twice a day will keep your toothbrush clean. After all, it does come in contact with toothpaste and water. Unfortunately, that's not the case. Your toothbrush is loaded with germs and bacteria from brushing your teeth twice a day. To keep your toothbrush clean and sanitary, toss it in the dishwasher once a week. The hot water will kill the germs and keep your toothbrush ready for use.
4. Replace Toothbrushes at Least Once a Month
You might have heard that it's a good idea to replace your toothbrush once every few months. However, if you want to make sure your toothbrush can do its job properly, you should actually be replacing it about once a month.
